- We are never in a hurry; our goal is not to see as many places briefly and check in on each planned target point. We often change our plans during the trip, noticing an interesting place where we would like to go.
- We do not seek to cover as much distance as possible and jump from one country to another in one trip. We prefer to feel the atmosphere of a place before we move on.
- We do not believe that accommodation and interesting attractions must be very expensive and trendy. We also do not believe that everything should be free and you can spend a holiday with children for a 100$ by hitchhiking and couchsurfing.
- How much does a vacation cost us: Flights across Europe under 400$ per person both directions, and prices are always going down, accommodation under 120$ per night per house for all the family, usually it is around 80$ per night, car rent about 40$ a day. Most attractions are free or very cheap except the Megaparks for children like Efteling or Eurodisney.
- We do not take organized tours. We pre-book a car online and pick it up at the airport, so we do not have to be dependent.
- We find it better to go a few times a year for 7 – 10 days than leave for a long vacation. After a week it is already difficult to absorb new experiences. This is especially true for small children.
- For trips with children, we prefer to make a “star” pattern route as much as possible. It means to stay for the night in the same place during the entire trip, where the drive time is less than an hour to each place.
- We love nature and stay mostly on farms, in small log houses in the forest, houses in the country or by the sea. We like less noisy hotels with swimming pools and thousands of screaming people. In the city, we prefer to stay in a cozy apartment than a hotel. Get our $41 discount in travel credit for your next apartment booking using Airbnb site, which we use very often.
- Our travel routes also largely lie in nature, or in the mountains. We also like to travel through forests and by lakes or in picturesque villages. In the large cities we spend less time, as the children are still young. We visit a museum only if it is interactive or educational for children.
- We love most outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling, kayaking and skiing. We spend less time sunbathing on the beach and do not choose “all included” clubs.
- If we have only one day in the city, we just go to the Tourist Information center on the main square and there we take a map. They usually explain to us all the routes for the time we have and according to our preferences.
We constantly add new routes to our blog. In time, when the children grow up a bit, we will travel to more distant places on the planet.
Let’s travel a lot, friends!
